Marubeni is very active in power sector for both EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) projects as well as IPP (Independent Power Producer) projects.
For EPC projects, our major entry into India was through the successful completion of Gandhar (Jhanor) Combined Cycle Power Project (650 MW) in Gujarat for NTPC wherein full turnkey contract was awarded to Marubeni in 1992 and completed successfully in 1996.
Marubeni also executed Electro-Mechanical package for NTPC’s 800 MW Koldam Hydroelectric Project as a Leader in consortium with Toshiba and BHEL. The Project got commissioned in July 2015.
We were also awarded for Turnkey Contract for Renovation of Gas Turbines Package for NTPC’s Auraiya Gas Power Station in 2012. Since then, we have been continuously involving ourselves in India's power scenario and are currently executing 10 contracts in India.
Further, for Super-critical Coal-fired Thermal Power Projects, we have been supplying key components of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) to L&T-MHPS Boilers Private limited (for 18 Boilers) and L&T-MHPS Turbine Generators Private Limited (for 15 Turbine Generators).
For IPP projects, we have participated in PPN Power Project (347MW, Gas-Fired Combined-Cycle) in Tamil Nadu as an equity investor of 26% in addition to the role as EPC contractor.
